Service Description

Meditation is a powerful tool, proven to reduce stress, anxiety and low mood, however, it can be difficult to know where to start. For most of us, ‘switching off’ is one of the hardest things to achieve. Katie creates a welcoming, relaxed and friendly space to show you that this doesn’t need to be the case and learning to meditate is achievable and accessible to everyone. Meditation can help to calm an overactive mind, creating space between yourself and your thoughts/emotions, bringing you into the present moment. You will begin to understand that you are not your thoughts. This practice can improve regulation of emotions, mood and mental wellbeing as well as bringing calm to body, mind and nervous system. When the mind is still and peaceful, solutions and creativity tend to arise spontaneously. Each week you will explore different meditation techniques such as mindfulness of breath, visualisation or mantra (word repetition) while weaving in some gentle asana (physical yoga practice – moving meditation) in parts of the session. Each of these techniques are methods of developing mindfulness and awareness. Mindfulness is the ability to be present – to be fully aware of what is happening right now. Awareness is what develops from this – insight into our own minds and hearts and a deeper understanding of our lives and ourselves. If you have ever thought ‘I can’t meditate, my mind is too active’ – or alternatively, if you are someone who likes to meditate and wish to delve deeper into new techniques, then this class is perfect for you! Many people believe they have an unusually active mind and so believe meditation is not for them, but in fact an over-active mind is exactly what meditation is an antidote for. Benefits • Calm a busy mind • Learn tools for dealing with stress and anxiety • Cope with burnout • Develop emotional resilience and restore emotional balance • Develop emotions such as empathy, kindness, compassion and patience • Improve relationships • Learn tools to help deal with challenging people and situations • Increase awareness, clarity and focus • Balance a busy daily lifestyle • Bring a greater sense of gratitude to everyday life • Practice presence • Create stillness which in turn breeds creativity and imaginative solutions to everyday problems
