I’m a total beginner – is that ok?

Updated: Oct 1, 2023

I get asked this question a lot. The short answer is: YES. Of course it is ok. It’s great to be a beginner, to be at the start of a new learning curve. I’m quite jealous. You only get to be a beginner for a very short space of time, and at The Well House we’re dedicated to making sure you love it.

If you’re a complete beginner, here are some things that might make you feel more confident.

1) Arrive a few minutes early and let the teacher know you’re new to the exercise type. The teacher will then know to give you options throughout the class, they’ll check their instructions are clear enough and they’ll make sure you’re enjoying the class.

2) Don’t rush it. Enjoy being new to something! It doesn’t happen all that often and you can take your time, it’s not a race to perfection – it’s an hour to focus on you and whatever you need on that day.

3) Know that your body LOVES new movement patterns, as does your brain. You’ll find the movements work quickly, and that your mind is energised and alert. So even if you feel as though you’re not quite grasping all the movements/exercises, you’ll still be getting a huge amount out of them.

4) Feedback to the teacher. The measure of a good teacher is how well they can support beginners, so let us know how you found the class, and if there is anything that could have made it better for you.

I hope this post has made you feel more confident about joining one (or more!) of the classes, if not and you’d like to touch base with a teacher before the class – drop us an email at wellhouserawdon@gmail.com.
